Burnley preview: Destined for the drop

If Burnley were to succumb to a defeat then they will be 12 points adrift with just four games to go with the Clarets having proven to be some way adrift of the requisite quality needed to survive in the Premier League.

The home team come into this one on the back of taking a slender lead against Nottingham Forest via Zian Flemming before a Morgan Gibbs-White hat-trick inspired Forest to a 4-1 hammering of the Lancastrians at the City Ground.

Man City preview: Title in their hands

Manchester City begin the midweek sitting just three points behind league leaders Arsenal and they will go above Burnley if they win, ahead on goals scored if they win and on goal difference if they win by more than one goal.

The visitors most recently defeated Arsenal by two goals to one at the Etihad Stadium at the weekend with Rayan Cherki’s opener cancelled out by a Kai Havertz equaliser before Erling Braut Haaland scored a second-half winner.

Burnley team news: Several injuries

Tunisia international midfielder Hannibal Mejbri and Switzerland international striker Zeki Amdouni are working their way back to full fitness, having returned to training recently.

Democratic Republic of Congo international defender Axel Tuanzebe has returned to action, too, and could be back involved for this midweek’s visit of City.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Dubravka; Walker, Ekdal, Esteve, Hartman; Ward-Prowse, Luis; Edwards, Ugochukwu, Anthony; Flemming

Unavailable: Beyer (Injured), Roberts (Injured), Cullen (Injured), Mejbri (Fitness), Amdouni (Fitness)

Questionable: Tuanzebe (Injrued)

Man City team news: Defensive injuries

Portugal international centre-back Ruben Dias is working his way back to fitness but he wasn’t ready for the weekend with Pep Guardiola saying he was ‘not ready still’.

Croatia international Josko Gvardiol is still sidelined for a couple of weeks yet, while John Stones has also returned to fitness but he isn’t expected to start.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Donnarumma; Nunes, Khusanov, Guehi, O’Reilly; Rodri, Silva; Semenyo, Cherki, Doku; Haaland

Unavailable: Gvardiol (Injured)

Questionable: Dias (Injured)

Burnley vs Man City prediction

Burnley have won just one game since the start of November and, while often competitive, things have begun to spiral, predictably, and their return to the Championship is on the verge of being mathematically confirmed. City head across Lancashire and up to Turf Moor in excellent form and they will be expected to ease to a comfortable victory here.

Burnley vs Man City tip: Man City to win -2 handicap
