Stade Brest begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting just about tucked inside the top-half of the Ligue 1 table as they now take on a Lille side pushing for the top four places in the league.

Brest Preview: Top-half Brest

Stade Brest, with former Sunderland player Eric Roy at the helm, overperformed all expectations last season as they finished third and qualified for the UEFA Champions League in Ligue 1 year with one of the smallest budgets in France’s top-flight.

Despite a natural regression this time around, Brest remain in a good position to finish in the top-half of the table ahead of the final two games of the campaign. They managed to defeat Montpellier Herault by a goal to nil at Stade Francis-Le Ble last weekend.

Lille Preview: Pushing for Europe

Lille begin the penultimate match day of the 2024/25 Ligue 1 season sitting just outside of the top four and the UEFA Champions League spots but the northerners have rediscovered some good form as they once again challenge.

After three successive victories in the league, they fought back from a goal to earn a 1-1 draw with Olympique de Marseille at Stade Pierre-Mauroy last weekend with Amine Gouiri taking the lead for Marseille before Matias Fernandez-Pardo equalised about 15 minutes later.

Brest vs Lille Prediction

Eric Roy has done such an impressive job at Brest that it still remains quite confusing as to how they have done it. Not just financially but also tactically because they can go through streaks of being defensive and tight at the back before bursting into some chaos. They now face a Lille side that are a lot more composed and controlled, seeking to dominate proceedings in possession and simply override their opponents so that should lead to a lower scoring encounter in this one.

Brest vs Lille Tip: Under 3.5 goals
