Borussia Dortmund have been much-improved since the appointment of Niko Kovac as they chase a top four finish ahead of the visit of Ralph Hasenhuttl’s Wolfsburg to Westfalenstadion.

Borussia Dortmund Preview: Dortmund’s improvement

Following the appointment of former Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovac a couple of months ago, Borussia Dortmund have been much-improved as they close the gap to just three points between themselves and the top four and the UEFA Champions League spots.

Dortmund pulled off a last-gasp 3-2 win away at struggling Hoffenheim last weekend thanks to a late winner scored by Waldemar Anton and that means they have now suffered just one defeat in their last eight matches across all competitions.

Wolfsburg Preview: Wolfsburg’s drift

Under the management of former Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl, Wolfsburg have slipped into the bottom-half of the Bundesliga table with a poor run of form killing any hopes they had of a top seven finish and European qualification.

The visitors continued their poor form with a 1-0 defeat to Freiburg at the Volkswagen Arena last weekend in a game in which Maximilian Arnold was sent off after 26 minutes before Michael Rosenfelder scored a 49th minute winner for Freiburg.

Germany international centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck is a confirmed absentee for the hosts, whilst the likes of Pascal Gross, Marcel Sabitzer and Maximilian Beier are all doubts, too.

Borussia Dortmund have been strong throughout the last few months as they seek to return to the UEFA Champions League with the impressive coaching of Kovac. They are in excellent form ahead of the visit of a Wolfsburg side that themselves have fallen away quite dramatically in the last few weeks with their last seven matches consisting of just two points in the Bundesliga. Dortmund, with home advantage and their excellent form, would have to be viewed as firm favourites for this one.
