Bologna preview: Hard-fought midweek

Bologna come into this one on the back of a thrilling 5-4 aggregate victory after extra-time against Roma at the Stadio Olimpico, pinching the victory in the all-Italian round of 16 tie in this season’s UEFA Europa League.

Bologna shared a 1-1 draw in the first-leg and did find themselves 3-1 up at the Olimpico before being taken to extra-time and sent through in the 111th minute via Nicolo Cambiaghi in the capital city.

Lazio preview: Poor Lazio

Maurizio Sarri and his Lazio side have been struggling with off-field chaos and decision-making that leaves them languishing in the middle-of-the-table and behind Bologna ahead of this match day.

The supporters decided to end a mini boycott to show Sarri and Lazio some love last weekend, and it helped as they defeated AC Milan by a goal to nil at the Olimpico, courtesy of a 26th minute Gustav Isaksen winner.

Bologna team news: Couple of absentees

Bologna have a couple of injury issues for this one as goalkeeper Lukasz Skorupski is a confirmed absentee alongside right-back Lorenzo De Silvestri.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Ravaglia; Joao Mario, Jhon Lucumi, Vitik, Juan Miranda; Sohm, Moro; Orsolini, Odgaard, Cambiaghi; Dallinga

Unavailable: Skorupski (Injured), De Silvestri (Injured)

Questionable:

Lazio team news: Zaccagni out

Mattia Zaccagni is the latest injury issue for Lazio as he deals with a thigh injury, sidelined alongside Ivan Provedel, Samuel Gigot and Nicolo Rovella.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Motta; Marusic, Mario Gila, Prostvgaard, Tavares; Dele-Bashiru, Patric, Taylor; Isaksen, Maldini, Zaccagni

Unavailable: Provedel (Injured), Gigot (Injured), Rovella (Injured), Zaccagni (Injured)

Questionable: Romagnoli (Injured), Basic (Injured), Cataldi (Injured)

Bologna vs Lazio prediction

Bologna have now begun to turn their form around under Vincenzo Italiano, with their European triumph over Roma and a victory against Sassuolo last weekend contributing to a run of just one defeat in nine matches across all competitions since losing to Lazio on penalties in the quarter-finals of the Coppa Italia. Lazio will be grateful for Bologna eliminating Roma from Europe but, despite their own inadequacies, will not show too much respect here as they seek to punish any fatigue and leapfrog the side that they slayed in the cup not so long ago.

Bologna vs Lazio tip: Double chance – Lazio to win or draw
