Bochum Preview: Poor Bochum

Bochum gained promotion to the Bundesliga in the 2022/23 season and then managed to avoid an immediate relegation last season by winning the end of season promotion/relegation playoff against Hamburg but they have not been saved by that this time around.

They sit four points adrift of the relegation playoff place with two games to go so, whilst mathematically possible, near enough impossible to survive. They were held to a goalless draw by Heidenheim last weekend, who occupy that playoff berth at the moment.

Mainz Preview: Mainz on the push

Mainz started the season relatively slowly but a mid-season run of form saw them propel themselves into the top-half of the table and in contention for Europe, where they remain, but they need a top six finish to ensure even UEFA Europa Conference League qualification.

However, they have endured an ill-timed dip in form as they come into this one on the back of a 1-1 draw with top four hopefuls Eintracht Frankfurt last weekend to mean they are now winless in their last seven Bundesliga matches.

Bochum Team News: A few issues

Bochum are dealing with a couple of injury concerns for this one with defender Ivan Ordets a doubt alongside former Birmingham City winger Koji Miyoshi, whilst another attacker, Philipp Hofmann is also unavailable due to a chest injury.

Predicted XI (3-1-4-2): Horn; Oermann, Medic, Bernardo; Krauss; Passlack, Wittek, Sissoko, Bero; Masouras, Boadu

Unavailable: Hofmann (Injured)

Questionable: Ordets (Injured), Miyoshi (Injured)

Mainz Team News: Several doubts

Ahead of their trip to Bochum, Mainz are dealing with several injury doubts for this one such as goalkeeper Robin Zentner as well as defensive duo Moritz Jenz and Maxim Leitsch and midfielder Danny da Costa, who is dealing with a thigh injury.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Riess; Widmer, Hanche-Olsen, Veratschnig; Caci, Sano, Amiri, Mwene; Nebel, Lee; Burkardt

Unavailable: Kohr (Injured)

Questionable: Zentner (Injured), Jenz (Injured), Leitsch (Injured), Da Costa (Injured)

Bochum vs Mainz Prediction

Bochum have given themselves a chance of safety but they will have to win both of these remaining games, whilst also hoping that both Heidenheim and Holstein Kiel fail to win. They now face a Mainz side that will be expected to get themselves on the front foot as they seek to find the form they showed a couple of months ago and the likes of Jonathan Burkardt, Lee Jae-sung and Nadiem Amiri should be able to take advantage of a poor Bochum side this weekend.

Bochum vs Mainz Tip: Mainz to win
