Ben Shelton vs Jaume Munar prediction

Ben Shelton’s best appearance on clay this season came at the BMW Open in Munich. He was forced to save match points in his first-round match but then went on a superb run to become the first American since Andre Agassi to reach an ATP clay court final above 250 level.

Shelton was largely uncompetitive in the final, losing to Alexander Zverev. His other events on the surface have been underwhelming, as he was defeated by Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the second-round of Monte-Carlo earlier last month and lost to Jakub Mensik at the same stage last time out in Madrid.

Jaume Munar battled his way past Marcelo Tomas Barrios Vera in the first-round, winning 4-6 6-2 7-5. The Spaniard created numerous openings on the Chilean’s serve but could only take five out of a possible 20 break points opportunities.

This will be their first encounter on clay but the current head-to-head is at 1-1. Munar won their most recent match earlier this year in straight sets at the Dallas Open.

Munar can cause problems for Shelton on clay, but we think the American’s powerful and offensive game should still give him the advantage.
