Alphonso Davies and Jonathan David headline Canada squad for FIFA World Cup 2026
Canada manager Jesse Marsch has announced his 26-man squad for FIFA World Cup 2026.
Former Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch is leading Canada into FIFA World Cup 2026 with expectations high as they co-host the tournament alongside the United States and Mexico.
Marsch has now named his 26-man squad for the tournament and, despite persistent injury concerns throughout the last few years, Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies has got himself fit and selected for the tournament.
Alongside Davies in terms of headlining the bill, Juventus striker Jonathan David will also carry a lot of expectation on him, alongside fellow forwards Cyle Larin, Tani Oluwaseyi and Promise David.
There are some surprises at the back with Moise Bombito, who has missed more or less the entirety of the season, having been selected, albeit it may not be too much of a surprise, given how effusive Marsch has always been in his praise for the Nice centre-back.
He will compete for a spot alongside key man Derek Cornelius in the heart of the Canadian defence with Middlesbrough’s Alfie Jones having switched his international allegiance late last year.
Canada have some exciting options out-wide with the likes of Ali Ahmed, Tajon Buchanan and Jacob Shaffelburg, while in the middle of the park, Marcelo Flores has nailed his colours to the mast this year, having previously made three appearances for the Mexicans a few years ago.
A couple of notable absentees are two experienced ones with defender Kamarl Miller missing out alongside Junior Hoilett, while Toulouse forward Jacen Russell-Rowe is also a slight surprise absentee along with Daniel Jebbison.
