It’s a little surprising to think that despite Sri Lanka boasting a 100% record so far in the competition after winning each of their two group games played so far, they would still be eliminated should Afghanistan beat them in this final Group B fixture, despite Rashid Khan’s men having lost last time out at the hands of Bangladesh. This is due to net-run-rate, specifically Afghanistan thrashing Hong Kong by 94 runs, giving them a huge net-run-rate boost earlier in the group stage.

As a result, Sri Lanka are forced to serve it out and will need to be at their best here. Afghanistan has the quality to overcome them if the Sri Lankan batters are not on their game. So far though, Sri Lanka are playing good cricket and the batting unit has not succumbed to any pressure. Therefore, Charith Asalanka and his team should be favoured to hold their nerve and make it through.
