Zizou Bergs earned a fine win over 2023 champion Andrey Rublev in the second-round. The Belgian was never in trouble as he wrapped up a 6-4 6-1 victory. This is the second time he has reached the round-of-16 stage at a Masters 1000 event, while this was his fifth career win over a top 20 opponent, and his first on clay.
He now takes on Alexander Zverev, who overcame a huge scare to beat Cristian Garin. Zverev went a set down, and while he levelled the match up in the second, he found himself a double break down in the decider. Despite deficits of 4-0 and 5-2, Zverev would reel off the last five games to seal a dramatic 4-6 6-4 7-5 win after two hours and 50 minutes.
Zverev tends to struggle against Garin, and he should be able to refocus ahead of the match against Bergs. He will be hopeful of a more comfortable victory in the next round of the tournament.
