Diana Shnaider vs Jelena Ostapenko prediction

Diana Shnaider continued her impressive run at the Wuhan Open with a straight sets win over two-time Grand Slam finalist Karolina Muchova to reach the quarter-finals. Shnaider edged ahead after the first set and went on to win 7-5 6-3. The Russian is yet to drop a set at the event, having also beaten Katie Boulter and Yulia Putintseva. Shnaider is up to 12 in the live rankings.

She will face Jelena Ostapenko. The Latvian backed up her victory over world number four Jessica Pegula with a win over Leylah Fernandez. Ostapenko, who saved three match points against Pegula, broke late on to beat the Canadian 6-1 1-6 6-4. This has been an unpredictable season for Ostapenko overall, but she has shown considerable improvement during this event. 

Shnaider has been the more consistent player throughout the tournament, and her left-handed angles could cause problems for Ostapenko, whose level can fluctuate across the match.
