Yunchaokete Bu vs Zhizhen Zhang prediction
Yunchaokete Bu suffered a disappointing loss in the first-round of the US Open to Valentin Royer. His preparation for the tournament had been encouraging, with his joint-best run of the season as he won three matches in a row to make the quarter-finals in Winston-Salem a week prior.
He will face compatriot Zhizhen Zhang in the first-round here. Zhang makes his return to the tour, having not featured since his first-round loss to Gabriel Diallo at Indian Wells six months ago. He has been out of action since due to a shoulder injury, which also forced him to withdraw from Wimbledon at the last minute. There is no doubting his talent as he did advance to the final here last year and also reached a high of 31 in the world.
Zhang beat Bu in the semi-finals of the event in 2024, their only previous encounter. Given Zhang is returning from a long layoff and will be well short of match fitness, Bu is highly likely to come out on top.
