Yuliia Starodubtseva made it three straight wins, including qualifying, as she recorded a largely comfortable win over Eva Lys. The Ukrainian stormed ahead at the start, winning five games in a row as she took the first set. Lys was a break up on two occasions in the second, but Starodubtseva reeled off the last three games to win 6-1 6-4.
She now faces Cristina Bucsa. The Spaniard picked up the first title of her career last month in Merida. Bucsa then competed at Indian Wells, winning her opening match against Darja Vidmanova. However, she was uncompetitive in the second-round against Elise Mertens, losing 6-1 6-2.
Bucsa leads the head-to-head 2-0. She defeated Starodubtseva in the first-round of the 2024 French Open, before beating her again in Nottingham a year later. She is now inside the top 30 and is the favourite to win a third match in a row against her upcoming opponent.
