Xinyu Wang vs Elena Rybakina prediction
Xinyu Wang made it through to the round-of-16 stage after defeating Eva Lys in straight sets. Despite not dropping a set, the Chinese was forced to dig deep in her service games and saved 10 out of a possible 11 break points.
She now takes on Elena Rybakina in the next round. Rybakina suffered an early straight sets loss to Bianca Andreescu last time out in Rome. Her only other clay court event was in Madrid where she lost in the third-round to Elina Svitolina. The Kazakhstani is not in the same vein of form which took her to the semi-finals of both the Abu Dhabi Open and the Dubai Tennis Championships but must hope for an upturn in fortunes this week.
They’ve never faced each other on clay but have played once before at the Jiangxi Open in September 2019, with Rybakina winning in straight sets. The former Wimbledon champion has the better all-round game and should be getting off to a winning start.
