It has been a frustrating start to life under the management of Graham Potter as West Ham United now welcome already relegated Southampton to the London Stadium this Easter.

West Ham Preview: Irons’ issues

West Ham United come into this one on the back of an improved performance at Anfield against champions-elect Liverpool in a game in which they were beaten by two goals to one due to a late winning goal scored by Virgil van Dijk.

The Hammers have now slipped to 17th ahead of this weekend’s round of fixtures and the Irons have been very underwhelming throughout the Potter era, which began in mid-January following the sacking of former Spain boss Julen Lopetegui.

Southampton Preview: More resilience shown

An afternoon in which you lose 3-0 at home to a team with bigger fish to fry and that side also miss two penalties is not perhaps something that should be seen as a positive afternoon but, after what they have done this season, that was the case for Southampton last weekend.

With interim coach Simon Rusk at the helm following the sackings of both Russell Martin and Ivan Juric, Saints played a more resilient and defensive style of football for much of that defeat to Aston Villa before Villa eventually broke down the door with three goals from substitutes.

West Ham Team News: A few injuries

In his pre-match press conference ahead of the visit of Southampton, Graham Potter has confirmed that Crysencio Summerville has returned to training with the physios at the club but remains a few weeks away from full fitness. Aaron Wan-Bissaka 'should be ok' following a toe injection this week.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Areola; Todibo, Mavropanos, Kilman; Wan-Bissaka, Soler, Ward-Prowse, Paqueta, Scarles; Bowen, Kudus

Unavailable: Cresswell (Injured), Summerville (Fitness), Antonio (Injured)

Questionable: Wan-Bissaka (Injured)

Southampton Team News: Downes returns

Former Swansea City midfielder Flynn Downes has returned from a two-match suspension due to the accumulation of ten yellow cards and could be back involved this weekend. However, Nigeria international striker Paul Onuachu is now a doubt for the Saints alongside former Burnley defender Charlie Taylor.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Ramsdale; Harwood-Bellis, Bednarek, Stephens; Walker-Peters, Fernandes, Ugochukwu, Manning; Dibling, Archer, Sulemana

Unavailable: Gronbaek (Injured)

Questionable: Taylor (Injured), Onuachu (Injured)

West Ham vs Southampton Prediction

West Ham haven’t really shown any signs of being able to adapt to Potter’s style of football, which is often viewed as fairly complex as they try and build cohesive patterns of play across the pitch. Whilst they get lost in their own complexity, Southampton are attempting to simplify things for the remaining games in this campaign as they seek to avoid earning the record lowest points tally in Premier League history. Saints will sit back and West Ham will struggle to consistently create so a low-scoring affair does appear quite likely for this one in the capital city.

West Ham vs Southampton Tip: Under 3.5 goals
