Werder Bremen preview: Complete performance

Werder Bremen put up in their best all-round showing of the season last weekend as they comprehensively dispatched Borussia Monchengladbach, a perfect showing at both ends of the pitch. Everything went right for Werder following Samuel Mbangula’s opening goal after 15 minutes.

Jens Stage doubled Werder’s advantage before two goals in the second half completed the demolition job and secured them their first set of three points this season, taking their overall total to four.

Freiburg preview: Late show turns things around

For a long time, it was looking like Freiburg were set to slide to a third straight Bundesliga loss, having trailed at home to Stuttgart since the 20th minute. However, the last ten minutes sparked an incredible turnaround led by Igor Matanovic. The substitute equalised in the 81st minute, before Derry Scherhant put Freiburg ahead.

The hosts completed the job in second half injury time, Matanovic converting a penalty for his second goal of the game. The result eased the pressure on Julian Schuster following such a disappointing start.

Werder Bremen team news: Boniface to start?

Werder Bremen could hand a first start to new loan striker Victor Boniface, although Marco Grull may have something to say about that after having started in the 0-4 triumph last time out in Gladbach. Both Mbangula and Musah are doubtful.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Backhaus; Sugawara, Coulibaly, Friedl, Agu; Stage, Lynen; Schmid, Puertas, Njinmah; Boniface

Unavailable: Deman (Injured), Malatini (Injured), Stark (Injured), Weiser (Injured), Wober (Injured)

Questionable: Mbangula (Injured), Musah (Injured)

Freiburg team news: Manzambi banned

Freiburg are without Johan Manzambi for their away clash with Werder after the Swiss midfielder was sent off deep into stoppage time against Stuttgart. Daniel-Kofi Kyereh remains injured.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Atubolu; Kubler, Ginter, Lienhart, Makengo; Eggestein, Osterhage; Beste, Holer, Grifo; Matanovic

Unavailable: Kyereh (Injured), Manzambi (Suspended)

Questionable:

Werder Bremen vs Freiburg prediction

Werder Bremen have momentum in their favour and will want to make the most of it after such a good result last time out. Now they return home and do so with real motivation to make it back-to-back wins, but Freiburg will have the same idea in mind which should lead to an exciting encounter between two teams that look strong offensively.

When taking into account the attacking players at their disposal, it would be no surprise to see goals on the menu between these sides. With that in mind, it’s worth backing over 2.5 of them over the course of 90 minutes here.

Werder Bremen vs Freiburg tip: Over 2.5 goals
