Luciano Darderi fought off Zhizhen Zhang to progress to the round of 16 in Bavaria.

The Italian claimed a 7-6 3-6 6-1 victory over the Chinese and will now tackle a familiar face in the shape of Vit Kopriva.

The Czech also battled hard to despatch home starlet Justin Engel 6-3 5-7 6-2. 

Darderi leads the head-to-head on tour 1-0 having won in Marrakech last year. However, they have also met four other times at a lower level in clay, with Vit winning on three occasions. 

Darderi has the form and is the sixth seed here, so we fancy him to have the edge, but it may not be routine.
