Leylah Fernandez vs Jelena Ostapenko prediction

Leylah Fernandez advanced to the next round of the Wuhan Open after beating Shi Han in straight sets. Fernandez saved seven out of eight break point opportunities on her way to a 6-3 6-4 victory. She won her first title of the season at the Singapore Open a few weeks ago.

She now plays Jelena Ostapenko, after the Latvian’s surprise win over world number four Jessica Pegula. Ostapenko saved three match points in the second set tiebreak, winning 2-6 7-6 (7) 6-3 in two hours and 23 minutes. This was her third top 10 win of 2026 and the 28th of her career overall. She will now be aiming for a third WTA quarter-final of the campaign.

Ostapenko leads the head-to-head 1-0 after a dominant victory at Wimbledon, but that was five years ago. Fernandez has been the more consistent hard court player recently, but Ostapenko cannot be counted out after such an impressive victory in the previous round.
