Vik Kopriva overcame a Thiago Monteiro fightback to win a thrilling five set battle and register his first victory at a Grand Slam. The Czech squandered two match points in the fourth set tiebreak but raced ahead in the decider to win 6-4 6-3 4-6 6-7 6-1. He now takes on Daniel Altmaier for a place in the third-round.
Altmaier pulled off one of the shocks of the round as he produced a very solid display to beat world number four Taylor Fritz. The German went on the offensive at numerous points of the match and clinched a 7-5 3-6 6-3 6-1 win after two hours and 41 minutes. This is the third time the German has beaten a top 10 player at Roland Garros after wins over Matteo Berrettini and Jannik Sinner in 2020 and 2023 respectively.
Kopriva will be full of confidence after his first victory at a slam but Altmaier was hitting the ball ferociously during his match with Fritz and is good value to continue his run here.
