Villarreal preview: Frustrating week for Villarreal

In midweek, Villarreal began the 2025/26 league phase of the UEFA Champions League with a 1-0 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in midweek as a result of an own goal scored early on by Villarreal goalkeeper Luiz Junior.

Marcelino’s side had returned from the September international break with a 2-0 loss to previously winless Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano last weekend. They had started the season well and will want to get back on track this weekend.

Osasuna preview: Lisci’s Osasuna

Vicente Moreno spent a season in charge of Osasuna last year, replacing Real Mallorca boss Jago Arrasate, but he left over the summer and was replaced by Alessio Lisci, who fairly remarkably led minnows Mirandes to the Segunda Division playoff final last year.

The Pamplona-based outfit come into this one on the back of an impressive performance last weekend as they defeated an energetic Rayo Vallecano side by two goals to nil at El Sadar, courtesy of goals from Raul Garcia and Iker Benito.

Villarreal team news: Nothing fresh

There are no fresh injury concerns for Villarreal to deal with this weekend as centre-back duo Logan Costa and Willy Kambwala are both sidelined alongside fellow defender Pau Cabanes.

Predicted XI (4-4-2): Junior; Santiago Mourino, Foyth, Veiga, Sergi Cardona; Pepe, Santi Comesana, Gueye, Buchanan; Ayoze, Mikautadze

Unavailable: Costa (Injured), Kambwala (Injured), Pau Cabanes (Injured), Gerard (Injured)

Questionable:

Osasuna team news: Creative issues

Osasuna head to El Madrigal with a couple of injury issues to creative players, with Aimar Oroz a confirmed absentee due to a foot issue, whilst Moi Gomez is a doubt due to a hamstring injury.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Sergio Herrera; Boyomo, Alejandro Catena, Juan Cruz; Rosier, Jon Moncayola, Lucas Torro, Abel Bretones; Iker Benito, Raul Garcia, Victor Munoz

Unavailable: Aimar Oroz (Injured)

Questionable: Moi Gomez (Injured)

Villarreal vs Osasuna prediction

In the opening month of the season, Villarreal were brilliant at getting on the front foot at blowing teams away, such as Girona and Oviedo, but they have been halted in recent outings. They face an Osasuna side that have some excellent attackers but Alessio Lisci is keen on ensuring they remain tight at the back and difficult to face, which could again blunt Villarreal and siding with the visitors may well represent good value for this one.

Villarreal vs Osasuna tip: Double chance – Osasuna to win or draw
