Viktorija Golubic squeezed past Nikola Bartunkova to get through to the main draw of the Miami Open. The match went down to a deciding set tiebreak, with Golubic coming through to win. Her best result of the season was a final appearance in Oerias, where she lost to Daria Snigur in straight sets. However, her other results have been largely disappointing.
The Swiss goes up against Peyton Stearns in the first-round. The American excelled at the ATX Open as she won her second career title, beating Taylor Townsend in the final. This was a big return to form for Stearns, who hadn’t even reached a quarter-final of a tournament since last year’s Italian Open. Stearns was unable to continue the momentum at Indian Wells as she lost in straight sets to Shuai Zhang in the first-round.
Stearns will be the clear favourite here and is expected to get back on track with the victory.
