Victoria Mboko vs Leylah Fernandez prediction
Victoria Mboko notched up her first clay court win of the season as she got past Lois Boisson in straight sets. Mboko broke Boisson’s serve five times as she won 6-4 6-3. This was the Canadian’s first appearance since her early loss at the Madrid Open to Caty McNally.
She now takes on fellow Canadian Leylah Fernandez for a place in the last four. The 2021 US Open finalist required three sets to battle past Magdalena Frech. Fernandez, who is the seventh seed at the event, lost the second set but still came through to win 6-4 3-6 6-4 after two hours and 48 minutes.
This will be their second meeting, with Mboko winning the first as she came from a set down to defeat Fernandez in the semi-finals of the Hong Kong Open last year. Fernandez seems to have rediscovered some form during this clay court swing, and she is now into her third clay court quarter-final within the last month.
Mboko has shone this season, but Fernandez is still a tough competitor who can extend the rallies to her advantage. This could be a tight match between the two Canadians.
