Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva qualified for the tournament after two straight set victories. The Romanian enjoyed her best ever run at a WTA event two weeks ago, as she went all the way from qualifying to the quarter-finals of the Guadalajara Open. Maya Joint continued her fine season with an excellent run to the semi-finals of the Seoul Open last week. This included victories over Sofia Kenin and Clara Tauson before the 19-year-old ran out of steam against six-time Grand Slam champion and winner of the event Iga Swiatek in the last four. Joint has won the first two titles of her career in 2025 and will hope to end the season strongly.
They played each other for the first time last month in the first-round of the US Open. Joint came from 4-0 down in the second to win 6-4 7-6, saving a set point in the tiebreak. This could be a tough match for Joint against the improving Jimenez Kasintseva, but we fully expect the Australian to get through.
