Veronika Podrez continued her incredible WTA debut as she advanced through to the semi-finals after a straight sets win over Katie Boulter. She went 4-1 up in the first set, but Boulter fought back and won the next three games in succession. Nevertheless, Podrez broke again and served it out to take the lead. The second set was far more comfortable as the 19-year-old completed a 6-4 6-1 win after just one hour and 17 minutes.
She now faces Sorana Cirstea. The Romanian beat Anna Bondar in her quarter-final match. The pair exchanged breaks at the start of the match, with Cirstea edging ahead in the first set tiebreak. She broke twice in the second to win 7-6 (2) 6-2. Cirstea already has a title this season after winning the Transylvania Open in February, and she is now aiming for a second in her farewell campaign.
Cirstea has a commanding 21-6 win-loss record in 2026, and she will be expected to get the job done against an inexperienced Podrez.
