It’s been a whirlwind year for Valentin Vacherot as he begins his home event. The Monegasque picked up his first tour-level win at the tournament last year, beating Jan-Lennard Struff. He is now seeded, aided by his incredible Masters 1000 win in Shanghai last year. He has shown form over the last month or so, making the quarter-finals of the Mexican Open and getting through to the round-of-16 in Miami.
He faces Kamil Majchrzak in round one. The Pole competed in Marrakesh last week, but lost in the second-round after a defeat to Marco Trungelliti. Other than a third-round appearance at the Miami Open, Majchrzak has struggled to produce any consistent results this season.
