Valentin Vacherot booked his place in the next round of the Mexican Open after coming from a set down to defeat Coleman Wong. Vacherot was broken in the seventh game of the first set as Wong went in front. However, the reigning Shanghai Masters champion did not face a break point after that as he won 4-6 6-3 6-3 after one hour and 57 minutes.
He now takes on veteran Gael Monfils. The Frenchman picked up the first win of his farewell season after defeating Damir Dzumhur in straight sets. Despite being broken twice, Monfils still took the first set. He broke straight back in the second after falling behind to Dzumhur, though the Bosnian saved two match points when serving to stay in the match. The 39-year-old won the last three points of the tiebreak to claim a 6-4 7-6 (5) win.
Vacherot will be the favourite, but Monfils should be able to make this a competitive match.
