Valentin Royer vs Novak Djokovic prediction
Novak Djokovic extended his unbeaten record in the first-round at Roland Garros to 22 matches as he came from a set down to beat Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard. Djokovic was playing just his second match on clay this year, following his early Italian Open defeat to Dino Prizmic, and he showed signs of rust in the first set as he struggled to read Mpetshi Perricard’s serve, with the Frenchman breaking in the 12th game to lead. Nevertheless, the 24-time Grand Slam champion improved and went on to win 5-7 7-5 6-1 6-4.
He now takes on Valentin Royer. The Frenchman won his first ever match as his home slam as he eased past Hugo Dellien in straight sets. Royer broke at the start of all three sets and was never behind in the match as he won 6-4 6-2 6-2.
Djokovic will have massively benefited from his first-round encounter in terms of match sharpness, and he will be expected to produce an even better performance in round two. Royer has just one victory on the ATP Tour this season, and he lacks the weapons to hurt Djokovic across five sets.
