Universitatea Craiova have started with a win, a draw and a defeat in their opening three matches. The Romanians most recently edged past Arges Pitesti by two goals to one in their most recent outing in the Romanian SuperLiga at the weekend.
They now face a Mainz side that, coached by Bo Henriksen, have started their UECL campaign well with three defeats from three. That has come at the cost of regressing a fair bit in the Bundesliga so far this season.
Home advantage should allow Universitatea Craiova to take the game to Mainz but the Germans have to remain firm favourites for this one in Romania.
