Sean King: Can the enormous featherweight come up big in his first UFC showing?
Undefeated across eleven fights as an amateur and a pro, Sean King (6-0) was originally slated to feature on this year’s Contender Series, only for him to cut out the middle man en route to a placement on the Noche card. Standing 6'0" tall, the 22 year old is a huge featherweight who has been perfect on the regional scene to date, scoring stoppages in all but two of his professional wins. “The King of Louisiana” doesn’t have the best resume under his belt, but he’s still largely had his way with most of his opponents to date.
Jessie Rosas: Raul Rosas Jr.'s elder sibling makes his debut
Elder brother of ranked bantamweight, Raul Rosas Jr., it’s been quite a road to the UFC for Jessie Rojas (8-1). “Tachidito” was unceremoniously cut from the promotion after his debut against Miles Johns fell through, only for the UFC to resign him shortly after to make up the numbers for the Noche card. Fighting out of Syndicate MMA, the 23 year old Mexican has finished all but two of his wins, with most of his victories coming by way of submission, but it’s worth noting that he’s also been tapped out by regional level competition.

This one contentiously comes down to how good King’s jiu jitsu is. He has solid wrestling but he’s largely been fighting absolute cans on the regional circuit who have been unable to test him on the floor and Rosas has scored submissions in four of his eight pro wins. There’s definitely a chance that the Syndicate MMA prospect proves to be levels above the American on the ground and either blankets him to a decision or finds an opening for the submission.
However, if this one stays on the feet, I think that “Tachidito” is likely toast. King is a long, rangy featherweight with a significant edge in height and reach, and while he’s been beating scrubs, he clearly hits extremely hard and has an excellent kicking game. Rosas has good striking but pretty suspect defence on the feet; if he isn’t able to work his grappling, I think that “The King of New Orelans” is going to tee off on him in the striking to earn a lopsided decision or finish him outright.
It’s hard to predict until we’ve seen these fighters under the bright lights of the Octagon, but we’re tentatively going to go with the Louisiana native to win through here.
