Mayra Bueno Silva: Can the former title challenger snap a three fight losing streak?
It's been a rough fall from grace for Mayra Bueno Silva (10-5-1, 1 NC). The Brazilian's troubles can be traced back to what was ironically her best career win at the time, taking out former bantamweight queen Holly Holm by second round ninja choke in 2023. Unfortunately for "Sheetara," the Brazilian would see her victory overturned to a NC due to a failed drug test, and it's only gotten worse from there. Silva lost to Raquel Pennington in one of the worst title fights of all time, before dropping further back-to-back defeats to Macy Chiasson and Jasmine Jasudavicius to bring her UFC record to 5-5.
Jacqueline Cavalcanti: "The Nightmare" looks to extend her undefeated UFC tenure
Owner of a perfect 4-0 UFC run to date, Jacqueline Cavalcanti (9-1) appears to be one of the better prospects at women's bantamweight. While she has yet to score a win over an opponent in the Top 15, the 28 year old Portuguese fighter looks to be a difficult puzzle for anybody in the division to solve, consistently landing strikes at a high clip and exhibiting impressive takedown defense to boot. The only knock against "The Nightmare" is her lack of stopping power; Cavalcanti has just three finishes in her entire career, and the last one came more than three years ago on the regional circuit.
Mayra Bueno Silva vs Jacqueline Cavalcanti prediction
"Sheetara" simply hasn't looked the same since her apparent breakout moment against Holm went up in smoke. On paper, Silva looks the more likely of the two fighters to score a finish, but considering her recent run of form, it's a tall order to bet on it.
By contrast, Cavalcanti has been nothing short of excellent to date. The Portuguese fighter has coasted to decisions against solid levels of competition and is seemingly improving with every fight. Furthermore, in addition to being the far superior striker, Cavalcanti also has a significant edge in height and reach. She might not finish "Sheetara," but she's going to run rings around her.
At the end of the day, Silva seems to currently be on a downturn equivalent to a train running downhill, while Cavalcanti hasn't lost in seven fights and has all the momentum in the world going into this one. "The Nightmare" peppers Silva at range for three rounds to walk away with the decision.
Prediction: Jacqueline Cavalcanti to win by decision
