Toulouse begin this weekend’s round of fixtures sitting in the bottom-half of the table as they now take on a Stade Rennais side that begin the match day a place behind them in Ligue 1.

Toulouse Preview: Toulouse performing poorly

Spanish coach Carlos Martinez Novell has done a good job at Stadium de Toulouse but there may well be a feeling that things are becoming stagnant as they once again drift towards a mid-table finish in Ligue 1 this season after an underwhelming run of form of late.

The home team come into this one on the back of a goalless draw with Nantes at Stade de la Beaujoire in their most recent outing last weekend. That result came on the back of five successive defeats and they are now winless in seven matches.

Rennes Preview: Rennes can’t get on a run

Since the appointment of former Argentina boss Jorge Sampaoli during the November international break, Stade Rennais’ form has fluctuated wildly despite some heavy spending in the winter transfer window. That said, the immediate fear of relegation has been averted.

Rennes, who had enjoyed three victories in four matches, now come into this having most recently suffered a 4-1 hammering at the hands of Olympique Lyonnais at Parc OL last weekend with goals from Malick Fofana, Corentin Tolisso, Alexandre Lacazette and Georges Mikautadze.

Toulouse Team News: Couple of suspensions

Toulouse are dealing with a couple of suspensions ahead of the visit of Rennes this weekend as both Mark McKenzie and forward Noah Edjouma are sidelined for the home team.

Predicted XI (3-4-2-1): Restes; Sidibe, Cresswell, Canvot; Donnum, Cristian Casseres Jr, Sierro, Suazo; Gboho, King; Magri

Unavailable: McKenzie (Suspended), Nicolaisen (Injured), Schmidt (Injured), Edjouma (Suspended)

Questionable: Ukdag (Injured), Aboukhlal (Injured)

Rennes Team News: Nothing fresh

Stade Rennais have no fresh injury concerns to deal with for this one as experienced centre-back Alidu Seidu is sidelined, whilst fellow defender Mikayil Faye is also a doubt for this one.

Predicted XI (3-5-2): Samba; Jacquet, Rouault, Brassier; Assignon, Matusiwa, Cisse, Fofana, Truffert; Al Tamari, Kalimuendo

Unavailable: Seidu (Injured)

Questionable: Faye (Injured)

Toulouse vs Rennes Prediction

Toulouse, in their mid-table mediocrity, do try to play an easy on the eye style of football. That easy on the eye style when not taking that seriously and lacking in motivation can often be quite easy to play against. Up against a Rennes side that are trying to play an intense and aggressive style of football in the hope of discovering some consistency, that may well not end well for the hosts and siding with Rennes may well be the way to go for this one.

Toulouse vs Rennes Tip: Double chance – Rennes to win or draw
