Tottenham preview: Loving Big Ange instead

Tottenham Hotspur ended their 17-year trophy drought in midweek as Ange Postecoglou, as he said he always does, won something in his second season as they defeated Manchester United by a goal to nil in the UEFA Europa League final at San Mames in Bilbao the other day.

In a game that typified the woeful seasons on the whole of both sides with very little identity, urgency or overall quality, it was Spurs who prevailed, for the fourth time over United this season, thanks to Brennan Johnson late in the first-half, albeit it may be a Luke Shaw own goal.

Brighton preview: Seagulls aiming high

If Chelsea defeat Real Betis in the final of the UEFA Europa Conference League in midweek but finish seventh with a defeat to Nottingham Forest on the final day of the Premier League campaign then eighth in the top-flight will qualify for the UEFA Europa Conference League.

Fabian Hurzeler’s Seagulls are the side that occupy eighth in the Premier League at the moment thanks to an excellent run of form of late that continued last week with a 3-2 defeat of champions Liverpool at the AMEX Stadium thanks to a late Jack Hinshelwood winning goal.

Tottenham team news: Probable changes

The likelihood is that Spurs make heavy changes for this weekend after their defeat of United the other day. They have several injuries, particularly in midfield, and the eleven is expected to probably be the 11 soberest players, given their recent celebrations.

Predicted XI (4-3-3): Kinsky; Gray, Danso, Davies, Spence; Bentancur, Bissouma, Sarr; Odobert, Tel, Son

Unavailable: Dragusin (Injured), Bergvall (Injured), Maddison (Injured), Kulusevski (Injured), Werner (Injured), Scarlett (Injured)

Questionable:

Brighton team news: A few doubts

Joao Pedro returned from suspension last week but was left out of the squad due to so-called ‘personal reasons’, later suggested to have been a spat with Jan Paul van Hecke. Georginio Rutter is set to miss out, though, having tried to get fit for the final day.

Predicted XI (4-2-3-1): Verbruggen; Wieffer, Van Hecke, Webster, Estupinan; Ayari, Baleba; Minteh, Gruda, Adingra; Welbeck

Unavailable: Kadioglu (Injured), Milner (Injured), March (Injured), Rutter (Injured)

Questionable: Steele (Injured), Lamptey (Injured), Pedro (Personal reasons)

Tottenham vs Brighton prediction

Tottenham Hotspur have been brilliant to watch this season, if generally poor and ineffective in terms of getting results. However, they are European trophy winners and it could well be a now fond farewell to Postecoglou, as they sit 17th in the Premier League. Brighton will go to north London with the hope of securing UEFA Europa Conference League football if Chelsea do indeed lose and a comfortable, albeit potentially fun, Brighton victory is to be expected at the home of the UEFA Europa League winners.

Tottenham vs Brighton tip: Brighton to win & over 2.5 goals
