These are two teams that will be concerned about stagnating as they prepare to face off in Piedmont with Atalanta heading to Turin to face Torino at Stadio Grande Torino.

Torino preview: Stagnation in Turin

Former Venezia boss Paolo Vanoli got the job at Torino last summer, replacing Ivan Juric, and he barely improved the already stagnating Piedmont-based outfit, as they finished firmly in the middle-of-the-table, once again.

The home team come into this one, though, on the back of their first win of the campaign. It was a surprise, too, as they defeated a strong Roma side by a goal to nil at the Stadio Olimpico last weekend, courtesy of a Giovanni Simeone winner.

Atalanta preview: Ivan Juric back in Turin

Over the summer, Gian Piero Gasperini, after almost a decade at the Gewiss Stadium, has departed Atalanta and been replaced by the aforementioned Ivan Juric, who most recently led Southampton to a humiliating relegation from the Premier League.

The Bergamasci began the season with disappointing draws against Pisa and Parma before then hammering a poor Lecce side last week. In midweek, they suffered a 4-0 hammering at the hands of Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League.

Torino team news: Masina a doubt

Torino welcome Atalanta this weekend with former Newcastle United and Watford defender Adam Masina now a doubt, whilst Perr Schuurs is entering into the second year of his ACL injury absence.

Predicted XI (3-4-3): Franco Israel; Saul Coco, Guillermo Maripan, Ismajli; Lazaro, Casadei, Asllani, Biraghi; Ngonge, Giovanni Simeone, Vlasic

Unavailable: Schuurs (Injured), Sazonov (Injured)

Questionable: Masina (Injured)

Atalanta team news: Lots of issues

Atalanta head across to Turin with lots of injury issues as Gianluca Scamacca remains sidelined alongside Ederson, whilst Ivan Juric is still not yet ready to pick Ademola Lookman.

Predicted XI (3-4-1-2): Carnesecchi; Kossounou, Hien, Djimsiti; Bellanova, De Roon, Musah, Bernasconi; Pasalic; De Ketelaere, Maldini

Unavailable: Kolasinac (Injured), Bakker (Injured), Ederson (Injured), Lookman (Ineligible), Scamacca (Injured)

Questionable: Scalvini (Injured), De Ketelaere (Injured)

Torino vs Atalanta prediction

The reason as to why Ivan Juric eventually departed Torino in the summer in 2024 was not necessarily because results were poor, but more because their style of football was very dull. They face an Atalanta side that have been one of the most entertaining teams to watch in Europe, and yet they have turned to a manager who is known for being quite a dull coach. This is a game between two sides figuring things out but, with home advantage, Torino should be slight favourites.
