Tommy Paul defeated Ethan Quinn in straight sets as he advanced to the next stage of the Hamburg Open. The American, who won a title in Houston last month, made a fast start and was always in control as he won 6-1 6-3. Paul lost in the third-round of the Italian Open to Luciano Darderi last time out.
He now takes on Tomas Martin Etcheverry. The Argentine also came through in relatively comfortable fashion against Terence Atmane. He broke twice at the start of the match as he easily took the lead. The second set remained on serve, leading to a tiebreak which Etcheverry won as he sealed a 6-2 7-6 (4) victory.
Etcheverry also has a title on clay this season, following his win at the Rio Open. Paul leads the head-to-head 2-0 after two wins earlier this year. He beat Etcheverry on his way to the title in Houston, and he is yet to drop a set against him overall.
