Tommy Paul vs Carlos Alcaraz prediction

After two set five set battles, Tommy Paul had a more comfortable round-of-16 match as he raced to a straight sets win over Alexei Popyrin. Paul won 6-3 6-3 6-3 to continue his best ever run at Roland Garros. Having reached the semi-finals of the Italian Open in his previous event, the American now has eight wins from his last nine matches and is enjoying a strong run of form after struggling with an injury during the earlier part of the season.

Carlos Alcaraz made it through to the quarter-finals after winning in four sets for the third consecutive match at the French Open. He defeated Ben Shelton 7-6 6-3 4-6 6-4 in an entertaining contest which involved ferocious hitting and deft touches at the net from both players. The Spaniard saved three set points in the first and was forced to weather a fightback from Shelton in the third to make the last eight here for a fourth consecutive year. 

Alcaraz leads the head-to-head 4-2 overall and 1-0 on clay. Their last match was at Roland Garros, with the Spaniard winning 6-3 7-6 in the quarter-finals of the Olympics tournament. The world number two always seems to find a way to win on this surface and we don’t see that changing on this occasion.
