Tomas Martin Etcheverry competed in Houston on the clay last week, reaching the quarter-finals before he was defeated by Tommy Paul. He reached the round-of-16 at the Miami Open a week earlier, where he also lost to Paul. Etcheverry already has a title this season, having won the Rio Open towards the end of February.
He faces Grigor Dimitrov in Monte-Carlo. The Bulgarian has a fine record at this event, having made two semi-finals in 2018 and 2022. Nevertheless, his form in 2026 has been poor and he has lost six of his eight matches. An early loss to Raphael Collignon in Miami saw Dimitrov’s ranking slip to outside of the top 90.
Dimitrov leads the head-to-head 1-0 after a win at the Paris Masters two years ago, but Etcheverry is a more dangerous player on clay and usually performs well on high-bouncing and slow surfaces. Dimitrov will need to produce his best display of the season so far if he is to advance.
