Thanasi Kokkinakis made his return to singles action at the Zagreb Challenger earlier this month, having not played since withdrawing from the Adelaide International back in January. The Australian won both of his qualifying matches but was unable to compete in his first-round match. He has consistently struggled with injuries over the years, and his ranking has plummeted to outside the top 800.
He is set to compete in Paris and takes on Terence Atmane. The Frenchman has not been able to make a deep run during this clay court swing, with his best display occurring in Madrid as he reached the third-round. He is ranked 51 in the world, and his best overall result of the year was a quarter-final appearance at the Mexican Open.
They have played each other once before, in the qualifying stages of the 2024 Italian Open, with Atmane winning in straight sets. Kokkinakis’ fitness is way too much of a concern, especially over a best of five set match, and Atmane will be viewed as a clear favourite to advance to the second-round.
