His first-round opponent in Hamburg is Tomas Martin Etcheverry. The Argentine failed to make a run in Rome as he lost against Mattia Bellucci early on. Etcheverry has still picked up fine results on this surface, having won the Rio Open and advanced to the round-of-16 in Madrid. He also progressed to the quarter-finals of the BMW Open in April.
They played each other for the first time just last month in Monte-Carlo, with Etcheverry coming from a set down to win.
