26-year-old Zhizhen Zhang claimed the best win of his career on Saturday with a comeback over 21st seed Denis Shapovalov. The world number 99 will break his career-high of 91 with one more round but he has already exceeded expectations by reaching the third round of the Madrid Masters on his debut. World umber 13 Cam Norrie should have enough to avoid an upset here but the Brit has suffered a few early exits in recent tournaments. The 27-year-old beat Yosuke Watanuki in straight sets on Saturday to get a strong foothold in the tournament but he has failed to win back-to-back matches since reaching the quarter-finals of Indian Wells last month. Norrie won an ATP 500 event on clay in Rio back in February, beating Carlos Alcaraz to do so, but Zhang should not be underestimated on this momentum in a first meeting between the two.
