Karnali Yaks' playoff quest suffered a bump in the road earlier this week, as Kathmandu Gorkhas got the better of them by four wickets, subjecting Karnali to their first defeat of the league stage. Putting 180 runs on the board batting first wasn't enough, with the bowlers unable to stem the flow of runs late on, leading to them losing out with two balls remaining.
Sudurpaschim Royals, meanwhile, picked up their second win of the competition most recently, defeating Chitwan Rhinos by five wickets in an absolute thriller that came down to the final ball of the game. Sudurpaschim struck the winning runs off that last ball, and such a dramatic win will have filled them with confidence heading into this one. The Royals are yet to record consecutive victories over the course of this season, and this represents arguably their best chance of doing so.
However, it's hard to ignore the fact that Karnali Yaks have batted significantly better than their opponents, having registered scores of 180 or more twice already in this tournament, something Sudurpaschim have failed to manage. That extra firepower should tip the scales in Karnali's favour, and makes them worth backing to triumph.
