THE PREDICTION
Former world number one Victoria Azarenka won both of her Grand Slam titles at the Australian Open in 2012 and 2013 but she has enjoyed deep runs at all four majors, including two semi-final exits here in 2011 and 2012. The Belarussian was a finalist at the US Open as recently as 2020, where she lost to Naomi Osaka, and she put in a remarkable shift in Melbourne this January to reach the semi-finals before defeat to runner-up Elena Rybakina. However, 33-year-old Azarenka has also struggled for large parts of this season, managing to win back -to-back matches at just three tournaments, and she has lost three of her last four to throw doubt over this kind opener.
World number 106 Yue Yuan qualified well this week to make the main draw at Wimbledon for the second year in a row and she certainly stands a chance at a career-best day here. Azarenka has won her opening match at SW19 in every appearance since a defeat on her debut way back in 2006 but a first round exit in Paris in late May adds trepidation here. Consider a one-off on Yuan to earn at least a set but leave this match out of an accumulator.
