27-year-old Yoshihito Nisjioka could break the top 30 on tour for the first time after coming back from two sets down to oust J.J. Wolf on Tuesday. The Japanese number one raced to the round of 16 at the Australian Open before something of a capitulation against Karen Khachanov but he has yet to make it past the second round in Paris. 25-year-old Max Purcell will also break his career-high ranking of 67th after overcoming fellow Aussie Jordan Thompson in four sets to win his first Grand Slam match at the fifth time of asking. Purcell has been enjoying an excellent season at Challenger level but he brought very little clay experience into Paris. Facing Nishioka’s unorthodox game for the first time is a struggle for most players and the 27th seed can be backed to win outright here.
