Former world number 31 Lloyd Harris passed a strong test on Thursday with a straight-sets victory over Jiri Vesely. The 26-year-old is currently languishing just inside the top 200 on tour as he continues to struggle making his way back from a long injury lay-off but this could be a fruitful stint on the Asian circuit with fresh ranking points to be picked up everywhere. World number 46 Yoshihito Nishioka found the form of his career this time last season, finishing runner-up to Nick Kyrgios at the Washington Open before a run to a second ATP title at the Korea Open, but he has struggled to match that in 2023. The 27-year-old claimed only his second win since the start of the hardcourt swing with an unconvincing comeback over Terence Atmane on Thursday and Harris leads their head-to-head 2-0 to look capable of making a much-needed quarter-final.
