THE PREDICTION
World number 33 Yoshihito Nishioka found the form of his career late last season to finish runner-up to Nick Kyrgios at the Citi Open and win his second ATP title at the Korea Open a month later. The 27-year-old started 2023 in much the same way with deep runs to the semi-finals of Adelaide 1 and the round of 16 at the Australian Open but he has struggled to impose himself on more recent tournaments and a 2-3 record on clay suggests this is wide open. World number 50 J.J. Wolf also found his best form late last season before a run to the round of 16 in Melbourne and, similarly, the American also struggled for a few months until picking up recently. A run to the third round of the Italian Open saw a strong win over Hubert Hurkacz that makes him look the more capable here but Nishioka is a tough, tricky opponent to have to face for the first time. Back both players to earn at least a set and leave the victor up to chance, or take Nishioka to earn at least two as the just-about likelier to edge through.
