YOSHIHITO NISHIOKA VS FELIX AUGER-ALIASSIME PREDICTION

Former world number six Felix Auger-Aliassime famously took Rafael Nadal to five sets in the round of 16 here at Roland-Garros in 2022, with the Spaniard’s uncle in his coaching team but not sitting in his box in an odd show of neutrality.

The 23-year-old brought ‘Uncle Toni’ into his outfit to try and improve his poor performances on clay but it was not until recently, whilst his form has dropped off a cliff elsewhere, that Auger-Aliassime saw improvements with a shock run to the Madrid Masters final earlier this month.

Whilst his run was charmed by a remarkable three retirements from opponents, the Canadian did beat Casper Ruud on merit and take the first set form Andrey Rublev before defeat in the final.

A three-set exit to Alex de Minaur in Rome suggests he will be a tough draw for most players here in Paris and world number 70 Yoshihito Nishioka will be cursing his luck after losing to Auger-Aliassime only recently, in the first round of that Madrid run, to trail 2-3 in their head-to-head.

Conditions better-suit the Japanese but three wins on the spin says that Auger-Aliassime has figured out a system for avoiding his tricky opponent’s disruptive game. Back Auger-Aliassime to come through, probably in four sets.
