23-year-old Yibing Wu set a new career-high ATP world ranking, and a Chinese male record, of 55th earlier this month after winning his maiden title with a searing campaign at the Dallas Open in February. The world number 57 faces world number 58 here as Alex Molcan comes into Madrid off a strong run to the semi-finals of the Banja Luka Open last week before defeat to eventual runner-up Andrey Rublev in straight sets. 25-year-old Molcan initially struggled to get off the mark this season but the Slovak is an excellent competitor in clay with three runners-up finishes on the surface over the past two years. Yibing Wu is still a relative unknown on tour but back Molcan to win this first encounter in conditions that suit him best.
