31-year-old Yannick Hanfmann came into the Hamburg Open at a career-high ATP world ranking of 45th after recently bursting into form on his favoured clay, although he enjoyed a brief but bright run on grass to reach the semi-finals of the Mallorca Championships last month. The German came back from a set down to oust in-form Francisco Cerundolo, via an injury, on Tuesday and he can count on a partisan atmosphere here in the late match on Centre Court as one of three home hopefuls left in the draw. World number 79 Zhizhen Zhang beat Jan Choinski in straight sets on Tuesday to snap a three-match losing streak. The 26-year-old recently enjoyed the best run of his career at the Madrid Open with some stupendous wins over Denis Shapovalov, Cam Norrie and Taylor Fritz before a quarter-final exit to Aslan Karatsev and he will be a tough player to put down in this first meeting with Hanfmann. The German looks the favourite with home advantage and more recent results pulling his way but it would not be a surprise to see this result go the other way. The sensible call is taking Hanfmann to earn at least a set and the risk is an outright call.
