31-year-old Yannick Hanfmann ended Feliciano Lopez’ long career on Thursday with a composed straight-sets victory, backing-up his first top five result over top seed and defending champion Stefanos Tsitsipas. The German will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of around 44th for his troubles and he should not be underestimated in this first encounter with Adrian Mannarino despite the Frenchman’s recent prowess on grass. World number 43 Mannarino looks to be the slight favourite to lift the Mallorca Championships trophy on Saturday after recent wins over Daniil Medvedev and Taylor Fritz in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, where he won his first ATP title on grass in 2019, and on a run to the semi-finals at Queen’s last week. The Frenchman is the most natural grass-courter left in the draw but Mallorca remains wide open, with Hanfmann a creditable threat here. Back Mannarino to edge through outright with three sets about as likely as two.
