27-year-old Jamine Paolini is enjoying some of the best tennis of her career to bring a career-high WTA world ranking of 35th into Cleveland. The Italian reached the quarter-finals of the Cincinnati Open last week before defeat to eventual champion Coco Gauff but she rode her luck a little at times after Elena Rybakina was forced to retire injured a set up in their round of 16 clash. 21-year-old Xinyu Wang also brings a career-high of her own into Cleveland, setting it at 56th this week after recently winning an ITF event two weeks ago. A three-set victory over Clara Burel on Monday looks the more feeble of their two results after Paolini blasted past Magdalena Frech and the Italian beat Wang in three tight sets at the Rome Masters back in May this year. Take Paolini to earn at least a set as the likelier of two very capable winners with the conditions slightly favouring the Chinese.
