This should be a competitive encounter between two tour veterans who enjoyed some resurgent form in recent weeks. 31-year-old Viktorija Golubic moved back up to world number 71 this week after a strong run to the third round of the Australian Open saw her stun both 15th seed Veronika Kudermetova and Katerina Siniakova before she fell to Elina Svitolina, harking back to her previous best tennis after several years in the wilderness. World number 70 Yulia Putintseva made the quarter-finals of the Hobart International three weeks ago with two upsets, particularly impressing against Marie Bouzkova, but her typical inconsistency saw her fall at the first hurdle in Melbourne. The Kazakh had to fight back from a set down to oust home hopeful Thasaporn Naklo on Tuesday but four of her six matches this year have needed deciders.
