THE PREDICTION

This should be a thrilling third round clash on Friday in what is, remarkably, the fourth meeting between Victoria Azarenka and Madison Keys since last October. Former world number one Azarenka has enjoyed the lion’s share of results between them but Keys finally got her first win on the board at the Dubai Masters back in February to claw one back in a 4-1 head-to-head. 33-year-old Azarenka won the Women’s Doubles title at the Madrid Open alongside Beatriz Haddad-Maia last Sunday with some searing tennis and she looked strong in a straight-sets victory over Sloane Stephens on Thursday whilst 28-year-old Keys avoided a potential early upset with a commanding win over Magdalena Frech. This is an intriguing sixth edition between the two as Keys is probably the more comfortable on clay but Azarenka’s lead in their record, and recent form on the surface, is hard to deny. The Belarussian should be coming through the outright winner here but take her to earn at least a set inside an accumulator.
